Review on Friday, August 2nd.

Okay. I wrote some review last night and I don't know why, but it has all gone. I was almost crazy about that. Ha......... It should be a lesson for me doing something at the last time. I shouldn't have done it like this. I should have done this earlier.

Anyway, what font is the best for my writing? I am pondering still.

Content-based Instruction-logic&Language.
Dr.Schwab, he started as always.
Content based, that means the class has real world application in the material. Content sould be meaningful to students and it should support the topic.

National Geography could not be a good material for class. It has too much visual 'moving' input and less language input. Movies or pictures should support/reinforce language we need.

Story board is a good way to introduce content in class. This is picture sequences.

How to use story board?
1. You can a watch movie with students and make them retell the story.(creativity involved)
2. You can give story board and have students suggest the story based on the pictures.
In both ways, students can talk about key words for each pictures. Do not expect students to tell a full sentence. Let students tell any words freely. The teacher can help students with kind of  comprehension questions. It gives students words, sentences, and grammar. The teacher can write words on the board. Students copy them on their story boards. It could help students' later speech and could be an tangible/manageable task. This task should stimulate students' creativity.

Classroom English
"That's too bad" is difficult to say for Korean without giving sarcasm. It is too tough to talk with proper accent.

Practicum and Microteaching
I think there is no difference between 'content-based instruction' and this subject. If there is some differences, this is for real practice, I think.
I have never thought that the teacher is the most important in the class. I have been always told to focus on students. Dr.Schwab said the teacher is very important because if the teacher is not happy, he/she influences students and the atmosphere. Then eventually nothing may not happen in the class. When the teacher is happy, students are happy. This is true.

For the students and for the good class, the first 3 minutes and last 3 minutes of class are very important. Review is so important as a closing activity. If I give students positive images of the class through review, then students can come back to the class being happy.
That's why demonstration of accomplishment is needed. Language is vague, unpredictable and has no formula. Therefore students should have their demonstration to check their work/value and appreciate what they did during the work. They need to take something physically tangible to see that they did something during the class. It could make motivating environment in the class.

It is also a way to build a relationship. (Why? I forgot....)
With video, students are just observers. With storyboard, students can make their own story with their language.

Anything can be content. If we talk about travel, travel ticket or brochure can be a good material. These materials could bring back the part of their memory. Therefore anything that students recognize through their experience is okay for class.

People are interested in story, especially of others. Teachers' experience can be a great source. However, be careful not to overwhelm students with too much language.

When you use video for class, think about these.
- Which tells the story: the language or pictures?
- Video helps the story or explain everything?
- no movement is needed.

In the classroom, you should think
- what do we teach?
- how can we present? : lecture, book, group...(format)
- how to put the content into the class?
