Review on Monday, December 30th.

1. Writing
Learn about theories for teaching/learning writing and the reason why we teach writing in class.

2. Classroom Strategies and Techniques
- Finish "Freedom Writers Diary"
I like the story. I read the book before and watched the movie also. It is a very moving story. I want to be like her. The problem is, her life was a little bit broken because her husband didn't understand her. Why don't husbands understand and support their wives in movies? He said "I'm not a wife." Shut up. Is there a rule that a wife should help her husband but he doesn't have to do? In the movie, all the men play so selfish? What stupid animals they are. Also, I want my own life, too. I love my job, but I don't want to devote whole myself. I need some time for me. Am I selfish? However, I am different from her. Without any prize for me, I don't think I can keep going on.
- Learn Dictogloss and Do using Jeff's diary(?) kk
How can I use this in my class? First, I need good text which have certain grammar points. Second, I may change a little bit. Students can rewrite after they learn a text. Isn't it okay? In this case, this cannot give help for listening skill.

3. Practicum Presentation
Talk about our demonstration class.(-_-)
Ah....................... I don't like to do open class in front of other teachers...T-T

Nowadays I started to read a fantasy novel again. It was written 97~98 and I read this in my middle school days. The title is Dragon Raja. This novel was once picked in Korean literature textbook in high school. I love this novel a lot. The problem is that it takes lots of time because it consists of 12 volumes of books...... I finished half today. lol
This is one of fantasy I want to recommend to my friend.... but only written in Korean.:)

Review on Friday, December 27th.

Today's class.
1. Speaking,
2. Extensive Reading, and
3. Classroom Strategies and techniques.

Today's classes were not bad. I mean, easy to follow. I was still tired of jet lag and needed some rest for short trip on Monday to Wednesday. However, not that tired so I was able to study.

We talked about what we miss in America life. I don't know what's wrong with me. However, I really miss life in America a lot where everyone is equal regardless of age. Here, I am so suffocated. Here, everyone says that it is natural that the younger have more work than the older. Why? Everyone agrees with that because they can get rest when they reach that position like the ones they don't like now. However, they want to be like them.

I DO NOT want to be like them. I do handle work which is given to me but I don't want to do other's work because of my young age. Also, I WILL do my work even if I get much older than now. This is my resolution for my whole life. I never make excuse of age. I never say "I am too old to do that." I NEVER give my work to the younger. If I forget this, then I am not who I am.

I know there are much more people who I can respect. However, still there are at least several people in school and they make every problem that they don't manage it by themselves.

Also, I don't understand the concept of 'gift' much. I bought some for gifts but I don't know how much should I give to teachers in my school. I know they work for me while I have been away. However, I do exactly the same when a teacher is away. My case is a little more special because the period is long, but still I don't want to prepare many presents. I am not here for just hanging out. There is a sub teacher and she does my job well.

Sometimes it is ridiculous that I can't take a good chance since I can't find a sub or the principal or the vice principal doesn't want to me go. They often(not always. My ex vice principal was great!) want teachers to work in school rather than have good opportunities to improve themselves. I don't think everything in school in Korea is bad, but they surely adopt the system of America on sub teachers.

I know there should be a problem for using subs like quality of education or consistency of teaching... We should find out some solutions for this. This must not be an obstacle for using subs.

These days I got upset very easily. However, I am really careful not to say anything. If someone sees my blog? This is my blog, so I have the right to hold my opinion. haha.

Review on Thursday, December 26th.

I am back. It is little bewilderment that I am in Korea and live my ordinary life again. Three months in California is long but short. I really wanted to stay there more. I thought a lot and I felt a lot on lots of things. Some of them were really disappointing but some of them were so fascinating that I kept thinking about them.

Today, I was late for the class. I left early, but I had to send a package to an unknown person. A box was delivered to me which is wrong address, and i should send it back. How irritating job it was! It took more than ten minutes. Also, my bus stopped on the way because the door didn't close. The driver tried to close it several times, but it was useless. Ah..... Very joyful start for the program.

I didn't do much today. I mean, there was only one class for we started at 2 o'clock. We just talked about our life after coming back to Korea and gave some tips to teachers from 5+1 program. It was bothering that some teachers spoke Korean whenever Jeff was not in classroom. Well, that was their choice. I just want to try hard as much as possible.

There are two things which I found that I hate: 1. aggressive driving. Here, I should wait for cars. Isn't it funny? People invented cars for its convenience. However, if a person doesn't drive a car, he/she should embrace all the inconvenience in Korea like waiting for car passing, staying alert about cars around. How FUNNY! 2. There is no room between people. On December 23rd, I went to Seoul. I was inside of train waiting for getting out. I was in line and I found out a lade stood behind me too close. There wasn't enough space even for a fist. EXCUSE ME, do you love me? Why do you stand so close to me? I kept glancing at her, but she just looked at me and ignored it. She kept standing too close to me walking though the passage. So, I chose to move my body a little to make space, like shaking my head so my hair spread to make room or doing some small stretching. I really hate strange people being too close to me. I don't understand this Korean custom because no matter how close they stand to each other, the result is almost same. It could make some problem, but they still do that. They think doing in hurry makes big difference, but not at all!!!! Maybe very slight difference? However, is it worth bothering other people?

Oh. I should shut my mouth up, or stop writing. I am too aggressive even as a Korean. That's what I've been told for my life. Dang.

2013년 10월 21일 월요일

Still on my journal everyday.

Still, I'm on my journal everyday. I just don't have enough time to upload here. It is kind of my homework for Busan education office, but I try to add more like individual experience or opinion.

I wish I had more time like 26 hrs for a day.

I enjoy everything here except poor transportation... damn it!
However, I sometimes miss my friends in Korea, or in USA. I need someone to talk very freely.

2013년 9월 26일 목요일

One thing I don't like is...

...the water pressure of the shower head!

It is too weak! I take long time for shower for this! I always worry that I may have some soap or shampoo on my hair or body. This weak water pressure... Ah. So frustrating! The shower head is also fixed on the wall, then I can't take it. If it is connected to the hose(not fixed on the wall), it would be much better.)-;

I miss the shower of my home...

Tired but excited

I just finished unpacking somewhat. I feel terribly tired after long hour waking. It is like waking up more that one day with just 3 hours slept in the flight. You know what? I slept only two hours before the day. I wanted to make myself tired enough to sleep in the whole flight but I failed to sleep for long time there. Oh.

I found out I brought too much clothes. I should have listened to myself!

I like this omelet.

It seems like unreal that I am in USA.

Nice homestay house, nice homestay mother. And I am going to go to get a sim card to have my phone back here.

Review on Tuesday, September 17th.

Today, we didn't to much.

With Noel, we played game called Dixit. It means "He says..." in Latin, Noel said.
It was little tricky at first, especially for scoring, but it is interesting. I should describe the picture in one sentence and put the card on the table not showing the picture. Others put their card on the picture each which they think is the most proper for the sentence. After all turned over, everyone guess which card is the teller's card. If nobody guess the card or everyone guess the card right, the teller can't get any score. The purpose is to make a sentence appropriate tricky. haha.

With Denis, we did tong twister. Oh... I didn't like this much. (We did others, but I forgot. It was too powerful to remember other things, kkk) However, my team (Sage, Krystal,  Bruce and I) did the best!
Another Minjee's team was hilarious! I saw Denis was laughing so hard. lol. The team was so funny that I even felt embarrassed. kkk

We even saw that Dr.Schwab was dancing!

텔레~비전에 내가 나왔으면 정말 좋겠네~ 정말 좋겠네.

I can't believe that the first session is OVER!

Writing for Communication
hahaha. I got 66% on my first essay. is it bad? I thought it is not bad for the first essay in English... after my graduation of university. He pointed out exactly where I felt uneasy. I should be careful to write something more.

Teaching Listening and Speaking
Quiz time! For the name of our team "Bruce almighty", he did awesome! Also, Sage and Krystal was great, too. I was the only one who stood behind them. I should study harder.

Practicum and Microteaching
We went down for free coffee. Technically, it was not free. It costed our time to get the coffee. However, it was not bad. We did evaluation on the course and talked with Dr.Schwab for a little.

It is almost the end. I feel strange now.

Adele - Someone Like You

Review on Friday, September 13th.

Friday on 13th. Whatever. nothing happened.

Content-based Instruction-logic&Language
We talked about somethings about our program and some cautions we should be careful.
I hope life there will be exciting!

Classroom English
As usual, we learn some classroom language and some activities in the textbook. I hardly remember now. (It is 2:40 a.m. on Monday 16th...)
We did kind of guessing game and Michelle was really good at it.

We left early for preparation. I exchanged money and got my computer fixed.
It was too tired for carrying the laptop all the way around. shit.

Review on Thursday, September 12th.

Teaching Learning and Speaking
We talked about what questions we may get in USA.
Jeff showed us how Americans talk and... I thought he exaggerated a lot. haha. Although my friend chewed gum sometimes, but she and her boyfriend never say like that. Also, they are good listeners. I may know very decent Americans. lol.
I with we had had a class for presentation in USA. Then, we could practice speech and also could prepare some presentation together. Not like we have to prepare ourselves.

Teaching Culture in the English Classroom
Presentation time! People presented what they prepared and I did. Unluckily, I presented about fallacies about vegetarianism. (Someone must laugh at this...) I was thinking about coffee, but it was hard to prepare. Then, I brought up with vegetarianism because I read a book named "Vegetarian myth" in Korean. Anyway, though, I didn't do all I thought, it was not bad. haha.

But why did Rob look so serious?
Creativity needs time!

And... everyone was curious about a certain professor's reaction if he know my presentation.......Although I accidentally chose the topic(it was just plan B, but he, I think, doesn't bite this. haha.-_-;;)

p.s. Bruce was late for hangover. As usual, he looked so shy and came into the class bending over. When we sat down, he accidentally showed his underwear for his shirt tucked under his backpack. Everyone saw it and Rob was so amused.

Classroom English
We did reading and interview with Noel. I did last time, so I read Jane Eyre. I love this novel.

Pedagogical English Instruction
There are several learning style. We studied about that briefly and checked our learning style. Mine was reading and writing, but I was rather balanced so I can use any senses to learning.

Review on Wednesday, September 11th.

I have now 7 reviews of temporarily drafted version. When can I publish them all?
Maybe after this weekend? haha.
When you read this, I am sure it will be after 14th September.

I just found out I made terrible mistakes on reviews like mistake on classes for certain day... I didn't think about changed schedule. Well... stupid!!

Speaking and Interactive Communication
We talked about global warming. He said that the write of the book is very biased and his another book has some strange topics. haha. Alien abduction? kkkk. I know there may be something we don't know in space but... it is proper topic for discussion?

We also talked about politeness in English. We should figure out some rules.

Bruce said "The longer the better."

Then, Brad wrote on the board "Open the fucking door, asshole"
kkkkkkkkk. It was sooooooooo fun!!!! Other teachers and I giggled a lot.

I like the way he talks. Like other professors, he is so humorous!
"I am going to ask you a question."
"I am going to answer your question." like this. kkk

US Education System & Overseas Prep
Check our homestay house and... I felt jealous for Bruce's homestay house. That looks so good!
I think good personality always get reward in anyway. haha.

Writing for Communication
Try writing an essay and...... I am stuck!!!!

Speaking and Interactive Communication
Global warming and way to combat it. It was interesting to watch the video clip from TED. Thank you Brad. You always broaden my view of life. haha.

Dictowatch.

Watch it again and try again.
Watch and fill in blanks.

Bruce wrote this except 'Natural'
When Brad saw 'N alone, he added and made it into Natural.

Bruce wrote again. This time he used name of Brad.
He is really good at applying what he learned.

Review on Tuesday, September 10th.

Reading and Fluency Activities
Reading and interview. He always evaluates my work high. only my thought? but I like interview with him.

Pedagogical English
Skills in English Class.
Job interview, Denis: Denis E Natural Intelligent Sexy Prof. kkk
writing poems. should refer his paper.
But I like practical activities. These things I can use in my class.

Level is the most difficult problem, but I WILL try these activities that I've learned here to my students whatever their level will be.

Afternoon, we had an orientation about life in the USA.
ChulJi made us worried a lot in life there. Ah.... what should I bring there? How much my luggage will be? Shoes? Clothes? Some shampoo or rinse? Towel? Dang!

Try the best. I'll do well there. I believe in me.

However, it is really glad to think about seeing Suzy and Vissal there. I'm happy to have such good friends there. Relationship and bond(?) are so interesting. They were English native teachers in Busan and now very reliable friends for me.

Review on Monday, September 9th

CALL & Multimedia Instruction
Today, we were looking for some ways to apply what we have learned to our future class. As always, it was not that easy job, because I am not a computer friendly person. If there are some ways, I prefer them without computer. In Korea, teachers sometimes rely on too much on computer and internet. So if there are some problems on computer, the class probably will be mess, literally. Most of material for textbook now is given in CD or on the internet. With computer, teachers can do anything, but without it, teachers can't do anything. Isn't it interesting? I have used computer and internet for almost fifteen years and everything has changed. Even in my classroom in my school, there is not a blackboard. My classroom has only a white board and there is an electronic board(?) behind it. It is so convenient that I used it a lot. However, when it is out of order, my class easily get into chaos.

I should be prepared for every situation. I must learn more.

Writing for Communication
We started to write an essay finally. Also Denis gave me my writing back. One is mess and the other was good, he said. He seemed to like it. I was glad that he like it. To write the better one, I looked up the internet and read about stress on wikipedia. It was a good lesson. 1. I should be more creative. 2. Before writing, I should look for valid reasons. 3. My idea is not specific enough as I think. It always broader. 4. Do some research and it must be better.

(I wrote again this because I thought I didn't write about this. What an fool I am!
I just past it here.

I sent my writing to Denis and it was so late time for sending it. I am lazy. )-;
The homework was to rewrite a paragraph about stress, because I made lots of mistake not only in grammar but also in whole part... like not so specific again or not giving reasons. It is still confusing to me. What are reason, statement, illustration, and comment? uh...
He pointed out weak reasons, so I googled stress and find out some reason to relax and reduce stress in wikipedia. Of course, it showed me in a word or sentence and I added my opinions and some examples. And... finally, I got perfect score! Yes!

lesson: If you can't bring up with good reasons, study on it!

I learned how to write conclusion today. It looked like rephrase, rephrase and summarize. hm...

Denis had us write an essay on anything. Oops, I think I choose wrong topic again. Idiot I am.

It was so fun to see Bruce trying to persuade Denis and Denis arguing back. kkkk. I really wanted to record it. Bruce and Denis were so humorous guys and I like them.)

CALL & Multimedia Instruction
Again, search for ways.

Practicum and Microteaching
We did demonstration teaching. Sage did great. I like her voice tone and actions. She looked so cheerful. I wonder how I look to my students.
I like Haily's writing work. It is the interesting way to introduce oneself. I read about this before but I didn't try this. I should do next year.

There are lots of things I should learn from other teacher. All of them have more experience than I do which I can't catch up with, never.

Review on Friday, September 6th

I think I am tired now. for being focused on something.

Content based.
Check Schwab's paper.
talked about phonics and gloss.
easy rule but little confused. am I fool?

We also did gloss things. I think professors like gloss work so much. It could be easy approach to teach writing and reading with listening or watching something. I may have to try this next year with my students. I am curious now whether I can teach my students with lower lever by this method.

Songs, maybe. I think students will like songs with beautiful melody.

Noel. reading.
making words and reading. I should see those flash cards but I always forget to do.

Practicum.
prepare the demonstration. Sometimes I feel very silly to do this. 5 minutes presentation with 3 or 4 hours preparation. hm...

Review on Thursday, September 5th.

I am so worried about homestay family. I hope I can get along with the family well so that we can go out together to buy something or to take a short trip. Also, I want to meet a really good co-teacher in the school. Please, please, if there is god, I really want to have good time there.

I'll do my best to be a good friend for sure, of course.

Information gap activity - Suyoung  Lee

handout which contains different information. There is information gap between students.
To fill the table or get the information from the other, they should interact each other.

Review with the bomb - Heejeong Lee(Hailey)
Description:
1. Give students a list of words that they learned and have them read through the words for 1 min.
2. After time is up, have them make groups of 4.
3. Show a big stopwatch on the screen and set the timer to countdown from 60 sec.
4. Students have to say any word out of the list within 5 sec.
5. A student who tries to say at the sound “beep” is a “player”.

Story retelling with 3/2/1 - Bruce
Description:
1. Divide the class into two groups.
2. Give each group a different story. Let them read the story and prepare their retelling.
3. Let students line up two lines facing each other. For the first time, students retell the story for 3 minutes. Second time, change partners, and retell the story for 2 minutes and for the last for just one minute.
Vocabulary learning with Bingo - Krystal
Description:
1. Students learn/reveiw words in textbook with video containing pictures and songs.
2. Students draw a grid of 4*4(depending on the number of words they’ve learnt) and fill each with words they just learnt.
3. Each student speak out one word in turn and the rest of students erase the word if they have in their grid.
4. The student who erases 4 lines first should shout ‘Bingo’ and become the winner.

Can You Guess What Object I am Thinking About? - Blair
Description:
1. Students sit in a circle, and one student thinks of an object. It must be a concrete thing.
2. He cannot tell anybody what he is thinking, but he can give one hint.
3. Students in the circle must ask questions, and the answers can only be yes or no.

Teaching Culture
Creativity = Curiosity + imagination
I think I am not creative so much. I can find myself pretty dull in Denis lesson, too.

Reading fluency
Just reading. Noel's wife suddenly fell in sick. He looked so worried.

Writing for communication
got feedback from Denis and I decided to throw my all writing and do it again.

Review on Wednesday, September 4th.

Speaking
Brad gave us paper talking about Konglish. fun.
Konglish is not bad. It could be kind of dialect for English. I thank Denis's opinion.
The problem is I am an English teacher and I should tell the REAL English and Konglish. It is so hard because I am not a native speaker.

AESOP
Jeff taught us how to order some food in restaurant.

I thought that it is not difficult to order some food at the restaurant. Still, I think so, because I'm going to be the most irritating customer by asking lots of questions if I don't know. haha. That is the my strategy to survive in strange place. I did in Australia and even in Tokyo although I don't know any Japanese. kkkk.

However, it was good to know I should be careful to order something like juice or coffee, or even water, because it can charge me more.

Real US English... 진짜 미'쿡'말 was so fast. Jeff spoke in real speed and I couldn't follow him well. Whatever, I am not a native speaker, so I will ask the waiter again and again till I can get it. haha.

I'll like to have dressing on the side. got it.

I found out tip is so... irritating.

p.s. I really want to go to Cheese Cake Factory!

Writing
Denis gave us some feedback and taught us how to start introduction.
Essay is difficult to write. There are several ways to start essay but it is hard to start a writing with 'HOOK'.

Speaking
Brad and we talked about job crisis.

Pronunciation.
Long and lax vowel decided by following consonant, especially sonorance.
I know this already but review is always good. What I have studied is still in my head but it is hard to remember and remind before I review it. Also, he organized it very clearly. I think I should teach some of this at my class.

Classroom english
Nothing special. haha.^^; I should read all of the book before I go out.

Practicum and Microteaching
Pattern learning. Poem.
We talked about realia. It gives class meaningful contextualization. Anything can be realia for class. Photos, memu, food... whatever it is, as long as it gives some base for communication.

Writing poems. good way for practice writing. It could be good for introducing each other and find out someone's thought and opinion unconsciously.

Teaching Listening and Speaking
Demonstration class. I like another MinJee's activity. and Nora's hot potato was fun! The hot potato song was good. I didn't expect it stopped suddenly in middle of the song. It would be good to make some sentences using given grammar. The level for this would be... more than middle? How about learning vocabulary? I should think about this.

Bruce called "Haliey~" kkkk.
I think his personality is really good. He always smiles and try to look positive aspects. Whenever he talks something, I can see some of us must smile. I think this is his really strong point. Make someone smile and see everyone's good things.

Teaching Culture in the English Classroom
Leadership. and talk about the article. We did several activities to try out leadership. I wasn't successful. I get distracted so easily by something in front of me and lose something small but important. I need to think more and try not to lose some small things.
Anyway, I was so sleepy today. I think it is because of the long trip.

Reading and Fluency Activities
do some vocabulary learning, flash cards, making hand computer better. haha.
I always forget to read those cards again. Then why do I make those things? Read these, MinJi!!

Pedagogical and Microteaching
Fun with Denis. Talked about integrated skills.
It is very difficult understand the concept fully. Also, I wonder whether it is possible to do the class with these skills like with all four skills altogether.

I maybe am too skeptical.

However, those look good and I am wondering which one is the best.
I like the first one, but it is rather expensive.

Jeff told me to wait till I go to the USA but... I am not sure if it will cheaper there. Or it could be same thinking about time and transportation that I should.

Everything is up in the air and I am so confused.

However, I like this more. Now I can start my class with some vocabulary in interesting ways. I was looking for this! Thank you, Jeff!

good photos to talk about
In English class, I tried to talk about something with students. Although they cannot express themselves in English so much, I can give them some information and lead them to read. Then, they can see different world and accidents. It could not be related to their class, but I think this is also my job- show around the world and new way to think.

I am still writing reviews...

I just keep it drafted version not published.

After coming back from Seoul, I feel terribly tired again. I need sleep, first.
I should catch up with all those on this weekend. haha.
(It must be crazy busy!!!)

Still, it is really enjoyable to take the lessons everyday. I don't want to miss anything, although I doze a lot. )-;

I am happy, really happy.

Something irritating

I know everything can't go as I thinking. However, there are something really annoying.

I don't know why the official doesn't give us enough information to us. He sure knows about this program a lot because he manages not only this 3+3 but also other 5+1 courses. I think he knows well enough about what teachers are curious and interested in but he behaves like he doesn't know well or WE must know all in advance.

Today, teachers and I went to City bank to open an account. We need it for paying the bill for homestay in US. Anyone of the group didn't know that we should have an account in this bank. One day a teacher asked him for opening new account just in case. She said he said like this. We MUST open an account before going out and do it OURSELVES.

Nobody knew this before. NOBODY! And he said we should open it now. What? Why didn't you say this before? There is little time to go bank. One hour is not enough to go to bank and open it. We should use weekly check up time or leave early. If he had told us before, we didn't have to go out altogether and crammed into one bank.

It took so long time for several teachers including me to go out and open accounts.
And Denis was angry for teachers being late.

I tried this yesterday in Seoul but I couldn't. I changed my name before and someone(my mom) tried making a credit card with my information. So, I needed more documents. I found out this yesterday in the bank. I was mad at my mom.

Everything he did, I don't like. He delays everything we want to know. If he gave us some information early, it is much easier to prepare anything. I don't like this. ha.....

I know one of characters for officials is waiting till the last time. I do this a lot, but don't if something is related to others!

Trip to Seoul and Gyeonggido.

I am not saying that it was good to miss the class. It was not good because there are lots of things I have to catch up and some professors must be very angry.
However, it was worth spending my time resting somewhere away from Busan.
Of course, I am so tired and have stiff shoulders from lots of walking. I don't know when I can take a rest enough. It was not rest for my body but my spirit? haha.
I didn't think about vacation for this year much. I almost gave up to have some time to rest. I am so lucky to take this course and want to focus on this only.
However, I found out there is an exhibition about Studio Ghibli and I must go there. I must.
Everyone has something in them which makes them feel alive. Mine is anything related to comic or animation. Ghibli is the company(?) or studio of my dream. If I hadn't given up one of my dream, it may have been my another future job, the animator working in Ghibli. haha.
So, I went there and saw about 1300 layouts for 5 hours. It was not enough time. If I lived in Seoul, I would go again and again. I love those pictures, although those are not completed pictures or movies. When I looked around inside the gallery, I felt my heart beating. It seemed to scream to me like 'I want to draw like this! I need practice!'
Seriously, I will make some time to draw cartoon again.
Now, I feel my heart beating again. I hope this is not because of coffee now I am drinking.
Also, I met my friends. One of them is now a mother of a baby. She and I spent 2 years together studying for the test. We shared lots of things those days. Now, we live different places, we are still able to share our thoughts. Well, I should learn how to talk more, though. haha.
Talking with her, I can organize my thought more. It becomes more and more obvious that I really want to study more, and what part I should study after. It is always good to have talk with friends like her. We have common interests and I can tell her everything about my work. She listens to me all without any prejudice which other people always have about teachers. She is a teacher, too. That's why I can share my thoughts with her. Other friends who are not teacher, sorry for this, cannot understand me and still think teaching is better job for theirs because of vacation.
I think they are not satisfied with their jobs.
Anyway, it was good to talk with her and have some time to think. It was a big help.

This is my savior

Coffee! I love you! I can't live without you!

Caution: It includes very very personal opinion. Don't be upset with this. :)

Speaking and Interactive Communication
As usual, we read an article and talked about it in group. It was sport events, and Nora brought up with Son YeonJae, the Korean rhythmic gymnastic athlete. She said that the player may be overly evaluated thinking about other Korean athletes who won medals but are not popular, so can’t be supported financially. To be honest, I don’t like this kind of saying. She is she and others are others. She has done great work as a Korean national player in the field which had been almost barren. Now, she has got fortune and chances to grow up more, others blame her for getting too much popularity. Why can’t Koreans just cheer and back up someone who does their best and get good results? On the internet, they always underevaluate what the player did and accuse him or her for being greedy for money. The player deserve everything and they need money to practice more! Others are unlucky and we should support them. Can’t you think like this? There are lots of low self-esteem people and They only say negative things like Man-association built by Sung JaeGi. He insisted that men are counter-discriminated by Woman-family Ministry and society that is friendly only to women. So he made the Man-association and get some donation from men on the internet. Moreover, the leader tried doing suicide performance as for a protest, but he did died by mistakes during the performance. What an idiot he was, and what idiots Korean males they are, who follow him. Woman right is still much lower than man’s. If it seems that women may have more power in society only because there are super alpha girls on the top. There is still huge gap between man’s payment and woman’s even for those who get the same job at the same time. Of course women usually have lower payment. Women still have to drop off their job when they are pregnant and it is absolutely not easy to come back to what they did before after one or two years. Still, men in Korea are so conservative that they think house choir and baby care is woman’s job. The problem is, teenage boys follow him without thinking. How badly do they impact on the boys! When I found out the association and many men support his opinion, I was so disappointed with Korean male creatures. They don’t deserve the word ‘man’.
Hm... I was too upset.

Also, we talked about Korean education, especially ratio of students who go to University and their study. Ah....haha. I don’t want to mention anything about this. I don’t think Korean education, especially from the kindergarten to high school, is bad. It is private institutes and tutoring that is really bad, crazy. And, some professors take advantage of their position and take some bribe from graduates students.. I heard this a lot and I don’t want to go back to my university. If I should study more, I must choose other universities or go abroad!

Pedagogical English instruction
Denis taught us fluency activities and those were really fun! I think I can use some of them right into my class after I go back to school.
Speaking fluency. Talking about one thing repetitively for 4-3-2 minutes each. Originally students are given time to plan what to say, but Denis didn’t give us anything saying ‘believing our ability’. ...So, how was it, Denis? haha. For the second turn, I faced Denis and had to talked about the book I read. It was lucky that it was SECOND time to talk it because for the first round I stammered a lot. For third turn with 2 minutes, it was much easier.
Next one was ‘the girl effect’. We must repeat after the words in the movie clip. The teacher can speed up or down. We read it three times, speeding up each time. I like the content, so I downloaded it.
Flash card activity also has time pressure. When the one person pulls cards the other one should name them. They can name/make phrases(I pick dog, or ‘orange lion’)/ or sentences.
He said that Role-playing, Telling jokes, Idioms/proverbs/analogies can be fluency activities, but I don’t know how they do exactly.

Anyway, I loved the listening fluency activity with “Witch Doctor.” It is a really fun and funny song. Denis, can I have the files? I want to sing it with my students. haha. Seriously!

Teaching Culture in the English Classroom
Clear communication. To do communicate clearly, you need visual input and feedback. And also you should know how to question to get information (the quality of questions).
We did three activities: following teacher’s instruction and do origami, one student reading story and the other asking questions to find out detailed information, and information gap activity of drawing.

Speaking and Interactive Communication
We did another dictowatch. We first, watched video clip and guessed the gist. Then we watched it again taking notes to construct the content ourselves. Lastly, we did filling the gaps. It was a so good movie clip, but she spoke so fast. I should watch those clips in TED after I come back from the USA.
However, the content was really good. Daphne Koller did amazing thing: Coursera. With the website, I can take some classes from very good professors in universities. It could be better than TED! I even get some certificates after taking certain courses.
As soon as I came back home, I looked through two sites. A little disappointed, it is not like having every subject for learning. However, there are some routes that I can use for my learning on the internet, and I am happy with the facts. As time goes by, I want more and more.

These are about the universities ranked within 100 top in the world.

Writing for Communication
I like writing although it is very different from diary. Very different. I like writing although Denis pointed out some mistakes and he ignored many other mistakes.. haha.
Really, I really like writing. When I was in high school, the time I was busy studying, I kept my diary almost everyday. It took, of course, more than half an hour, but it was one of ways for releasing my stress for study and my tough and hard life. Well, I can’t read them well because it is so embarrassing to read those emotions again.
Anyway, we talked about how to write introduction of an essay. There are some ways to do this, although, Denis didn’t like this much.
Move from general to specific
Use an anecdote
Use a quotation
Ask a question
Present facts and statistics

Why did I feel that tired this morning? I was a little embarrassed that Denis mentioned me for being tired.

CALL & Teaching listening and Speaking
Social Network Service.... that was the word coined in Korea? Really? I thought it was invented by English speakers. We explored some sites and had time to think whether the sites would be useful to each other.
As a teacher, I often feel that I am overwhelmed by massive information. Finding good information is important. However what is more is processing the information suitable to my class. It is just raw material before I precess it. The problem is, there are already too many things not only in offline but also on the internet. Too often it takes too much time screen some good materials.
We also had time to think about activities that we will do demonstration on Thursday.............................. Ah.... I almost, no, totally forgot this till now. Some teachers definitely complained about this(Well, I felt like doing, too) and... Jeff made me some opponents by saying what I wrote on my blog. JEFF!!!! )-; Now, my life is on a very thin thread and I’m sure there are some enemies around me..... lol.

Practicum and Microteaching
Superlative. It has its accent on the second syllable. So, it must be pronounced like suPERlative. idiot I am. -_-
I did demonstration for this time, and with other teacher’s help, I finished it well. Well.... I think. It wasn’t that bad, is it? And Dr.Schwab (As I mentioned, everyone calls him Dr.Schwab, not Bob. He is the exception among the faculties.) gave us some advice. My team’s work would have been better if we had considered the adjective set, like short-tall, big-small. It could be also a good way to teach antonyms. Also he suggested us that we should get students to write/create the rule themselves. I gave them some examples using myself as a precious guinea pig and highlighted some important parts of the sentences. Then, I may lead them to suggest the rule and make it into a sentence. That is the inductive way. I usually try this way but without the last part-making rules by themselves. Okay, I’ll try later.
Other teachers also did really well, fantastic. Their experience as a teacher, I can’t catch up with in a few years. I should try harder.
Today, it was little hard to follow his explanation. Especially when he commented on Nora’s demonstration. I should practice and focus on listening more.
